SHOWDOWN running slow? Turn on graphics acceleration for smoother gameplay!

How to Turn On Hardware Acceleration in Your Browser? Game feeling choppy? Hardware acceleration lets your browser use your computer’s graphics processor to help run games, videos and animations more smoothly. Some browsers call it graphics acceleration. Follow the steps for your browser below. These instructions are for desktop and laptop computers. Save any unfinished work before restarting your browser.

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome. Type chrome://settings/system into the address bar at the top of the window, then press Enter.
  2. Turn on Use graphics acceleration when available.
  3. Click Relaunch if prompted, or fully close and reopen Chrome.

You can also find this setting through ⋮ → Settings → System.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge. Type edge://settings/system into the address bar, then press Enter.
  2. Find Use graphics acceleration when available and turn it on. If needed, use the search box in Settings to search for acceleration.
  3. Click Restart if prompted, or fully close and reopen Edge.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox. Type about:preferences into the address bar, then press Enter.
  2. Use the search box in Settings to search for performance.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings to reveal the hardware acceleration option.
  4. Check Use hardware acceleration when available, then fully close and reopen Firefox.

If the hardware acceleration option is missing, your graphics driver may not support it.

What about Safari or mobile browsers?

Safari on Mac does not offer a standard hardware acceleration switch in its settings. There is no equivalent toggle to turn on for this guide.

Using a phone or tablet? These desktop settings do not apply. Mobile browsers generally manage graphics acceleration automatically.

Ready to play

After restarting, reopen the game. If acceleration was already on, leave it enabled. If turning it on causes flickering or crashes, turn it off again and check for browser, operating system and graphics driver updates.
