Rankings System and Leaderboards

Everything you need to know about SHOWDOWN’s ranking system and leaderboards. Learn how ranks work, how to climb the ladder, and what it takes to earn your place among the best.

Overview

The ranking system runs in seasons of 2 months. Each player’s standing is tracked through a hidden rating and a visible rank made up of stars.

MMR (Matchmaking Rating)

  • Every player has an MMR.
  • MMR is never displayed to the player.
  • After each match, MMR changes as follows:
  • Starting MMR is 1000 and reset to 1000 after the season ends.

Stars & Win Streaks

  • A win normally awards 1 star.
  • Win streak: from the 3rd consecutive win onward, a win awards 2 stars instead of 1.

Ranks

  • There are four base ranks — Citizen Bronze, Citizen Silver, Citizen Gold, Citizen Diamond — plus Elite at the top.
  • Each rank holds 9 stars.
  • When you first reach a rank, you enter it with 1 star.
  • Each win adds a star.
  • If a win would give you a 10th star, you are promoted to the next rank instead, entering it with 1 star.
  • Ranks can never be lost. Once you reach a rank you keep it: the minimum is 0 stars, but you never drop below the rank. Losing a game at 0 stars leaves you at that rank with 0 stars.

Season (2-month period)
Displays the top 10 players on the leaderboard with their earnings, plus the player's own position and earnings.

Top Money Game Earners
When a player plays a Quick Match and wins, the amount won is added to their total.
Example: If Player A plays 4 matches for $10 each and wins 1 of them, $10 is displayed next to their name.

Top Tournament Winners
When a player collects prize money from a tournament, that amount is added to their total.

(Example: Player playes freeroll tournament for real money and 10USD tournament, they win 5 dollars in freroll and nothing in 10USD tournament = their winnings = 5)

Elite Leaderboard

  • Only Elite are shown on the leaderboard.
  • The leaderboard displays all Elite. it can be empty if there’s no elite players
  • A Elite’s leaderboard position reflects their standing among Elites, not their raw MMR position. For example: if there are 50 Elite and a player is the lowest-ranked among them — even if they would sit around 100th by MMR overall — they appear at position 50.

Rewards for Seasons:
